Italian Rose Garden

The Queen of Flowers has found a spot befitting her status in the Italian Rose Garden south of Mainau Palace. Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden commissioned the building of the strict geometric garden. Pergolas, marble statues and fountains radiate a flair that invites visitors to stroll around, linger and enjoy.

Besides classic roses, there are also profuse-flowering climbing roses on trellises, elegant standard roses and artful rose pyramids in 1,000 different varieties. The bright palette of colour changes from year to year as Mainau gardeners continually plant new varieties. Their beguiling perfume, mass of blossoms and elegance provide a sensual experience during the first peak flowering period from mid June and also during the second one later in August.
