slowly it is getting noticeably chillier, the first leaves are changing their colours and graceful autumn flowers are beginning to bloom in our park: autumn anemones elegantly swaying in the wind adorn our perennial garden, the roses in our Promenade of Wild and Bush Roses display their red fruits – the rose hips – and in our Dahlia garden probably the most beautiful Mexican composite flower is making its grand entrance: Dahlias in more than 220 sorts captivate us with their incredible variety of shapes and colours.
This year, by the way, our traditional dahlia election will take place online for the first time ever. Take a vote until 3rd October 2021 and choose the Mainau Dahlia Queen 2021.
From 24th September until 24th October 2021, succulent plants from all over the world will be on display in our autumn exhibition in the Palm House, almost as multifaceted side as the dahlia blossoms in the Flower Island’s South. Feel free to drop by and learn more about these water-storing natural works of art.
Early autumn is also a culinary experience with us: In our “Daily Bread” bakery, you can enjoy a fine plum and onion tart. Apple juice made from freshly harvested Mainau apples is served in our restaurants. The fruity juice is also available to take home in our farm shop at the Mainau-Träff. And we particularly recommend the Weinklang, a musical wine tasting, which will take place on 30th September 2021 in the Comturey.
We wish you a cheerful and colourful early autumn on Mainau Island and look forward to your visit!
