What's in Bloom

June Blooms

A visit to Mainau Island is an unforgettable experience at any time of year. Here you will find a selection of flowers, trees and shrubs that you can discover during a walk in June:

The queen of flowers has found a spot befitting her status in the Italian Rose Garden [33].

The Walk of Wild and Shrub Roses [16] is characterized by a certain wildness and intense scent.

During summer season, the Roof Garden [48] is decorated with classic hydrangeas.

Mullein flowers (Verbascum thapsiforme) are native medicinal plants. They are also used for dyeing and can be found in the Herb Garden [11].

Often a single flower of the daylily (Hemerocallis) only lasts one day. You are welcome to admire their beauty in the Shrub Garden [44].

The great masterwort (Astrantia major) blooms in the Shrub Garden [44].

The historic citrus collection in the palace courtyard exudes a tempting fresh aroma and lends a Mediterranean flair to the Flower Island.

Viper’s bugloss (Echium vulgare) loves its sunny location in the Insect Garden [17] and enchants us with its blue-violet flowers.

The tulip tree (Liriodendrum tulipifera) in the Arboretum (Tree Collection) [25] is decorated with yellow flowers in June.

The Mediterranean Terrace and the Area of Fountains [36] invite you to enjoy South African flowers, for example African lilies (Agapanthus ‚Twister‘).

In the Shrub Garden [44], the round-headed leek (Allium sphaerocephalon) gently sways in the wind.

In the „Visitor’s Garden“ [18], the kniphofia ‚Alcazar' and the asphodeline offer brilliant color contrasts.

The flowering periods mentioned above only provide approximate information.
They depend on the temperature and the precipitation and can therefor vary. The pictures shown here are based on the flowering periods of the past year. You are welcome to inquire about what’s in bloom before your visit to Mainau: info@mainau.de
