A visit to Mainau Island is an unforgettable experience at any time of year. Here you will find a selection of flowers, trees and shrubs that you can discover during a walk in October:
Dahlias with their floral magnificence and great diversity are the autumn attraction on Mainau Island.
In October, Mainau Island is decorated with autumn colored trees in golden yellow and copper red.
Ornamental grasses are both majestic and delicate and enrich the Shrub Garden [44].
Near the Italian Rose Garden [33], the Japanese pagoda tree (Styphnolobium japonicum) starts to change its leave color from green to yellow.
Crocuses with their soft purple color are in bloom in the Shrub Garden [44].
The yellow-green fruits of bitter orange (Poncirus trifoliata) are real eye-catchers in the Shrub Garden [44] and at the Italian Style Flower and Water Cascade [37].
Before the gingko tree at the palace church St. Marien loses all its leaves, they turn as yellow as the summer sun.
In the Shrub Garden [44], the cone-shaped flowers of the elephant-eared saxifrage 'Herbstblüte' turn pink.
In autumn, all roses are decorated with bright red rose hips.
Chinese aconite, Carmichaels’s monkshood or Chinese wolfsbane (Aconitum carmichaelii ‚Arendsii') with its panicles of blue flowers is an ornamental shrub. It grows in the „Visitor’s Garden“ [18] and in the Shrub Garden [44].
The autumn foliage of the American sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) shines bright red at the Italian Style Flower and Water Cascade [37].
On the Mediterranean Terrace [36], ripe fruits drop from the sweet chestnut trees.
