A visit to Mainau Island is an unforgettable experience at any time of year. Here you will find a selection of flowers, trees and shrubs that you can discover during a walk in September:
Dahlias with their floral magnificence and great diversity are the autumn attraction on Mainau Island.
On the Roof Garden [48], the white flower heads of the triple-veined pearly everlasting (Anaphalis triplinervis) are real eye-catchers.
In the Shrub Garden [44], golden coneflowers and violet asters are an important part of the autumn bloom.
Near the Italian Rose Garden [33], the Japanese pagoda tree (Styphnolobium japonicum) starts to change its leave color from green to yellow.
The obedient plant 'Bouqet Rose' (Physostegia virginiana) has an unusual shape. Its tubular pink flowers decorate the Shrub Garden [44].
Colorful Fuchsia species can be seen, amongst others, at the Gardener’s Tower [26] and in the flowerbeds on the shore of Lake Constance.
Varieties of stonecrops (Sedum) set unique accents among the flowerbeds on Mainau Island.
In the Shrub Garden [44], the fairy candle (Cimicifuga roamosa) spreads its sweetish scent.
The anemone 'Honorine Jobert’ is characterized by bright pure white flowers, which can be found in the Shrub Garden [44].
Finely rolled leaves are typical for the sweet coneflower 'Henry Eilers’ (Rudbeckia subtomentosa). In the Dahlia Garden [38], its blossom shines as bright as a little sun.
The tree aeonium, tree houseleek or Irish rose (Aeonium arboreum) enjoys the late summer on the Mediterranean Terrace [36].
In the Arboretum (Tree Collection) [25], the fruit of the Japanese dogwood (Cornus kousa) will turn raspberry pink in the coming weeks.
The Mysore trumpetvine or Indian clock vine (Thunbergia mysorensis) captivates our visitors with its exotic appearance near the Butterfly House [19].
Perennial sunflowers shine golden yellow in the Dahlia Garden [38] and the Shrub Garden [44].
Our unique tree collection in the Arboretum [25] slowly starts to change to warm autumn colors.
