Arrival by bus
Arrival with the city bus of Stadtwerke Konstanz: Ring line 4/13 and 13/4
The bus of the ring line 4/13 and 13/4 between Konstanz/Laube via Litzelstetten, Wallhausen, Dingelsdorf and Dettingen stops near the entrance to the island of Mainau. You can find the timetable here.
Good to know: Guests who stay more than one night in Constance, pay visitor's tax and thus receive the Lake Constance Guest Pass, travel free of charge on the buses of the Constance public utility company.

The Constance public utilities app contains all bus connections in Constance up to the desired end point, including footpaths, and also covers the whole of Baden-Württemberg.
By long-distance coach to the island of Mainau
The flower island in Lake Constance can also be reached by long-distance coach. There are three long-distance bus stops in Constance. Further information can be found on the Flixbus website.
Arrival by bike
Cycling to the island of Mainau is environmentally friendly and very easy, as the flower island is located directly on the Lake Constance cycle path. Please note that the island of Mainau itself is not accessible by bike .
At the parking lot on the mainland you will find:
- Modern parking facilities, also for bicycles with trailers
- Lockers
- Breakdown tool
- Changing rooms
There are two e-bike solar charging stations at the mainland entrance ! During the Flower Year (March 21 to October 19, 2025), twelve bicycles can be charged at the same time free of charge. Electric scooters and other devices that are compatible with 230 volts can also be connected. The e-bike charging station is not in operation during the winter months.
You can also use the KONRAD bicycle rental system from Stadtwerke Konstanz to get to the entrance to Mainau Island. One of 15 rental stations is located at the island entrance/mainland. Further information on the Konrad bicycle rental system can be found here.
Arrival by boat
The island of Mainau is easily accessible by boat and offers a wonderful view over Lake Constance. The various shipping companies dock regularly and connect Mainau with numerous ports in the region, including Constance, Überlingen and Meersburg. However, you can also reach the flower island of Mainau from all major ports on Lake Constance. Before you travel, it is worth taking a look at the current timetables to check departure times and connections.
Arrival by ferry

Arrival by car / motorcycle / motorhome
The island of Mainau in Lake Constance near Constance is located close to the B33 main road on the L219 highway and has a spacious parking lot.

Important for motorhome drivers:
As a driver of a motorhome or car with a caravan, you have the option of parking your vehicle in the specially designated parking area on our mainland parking lot. It is also possible to spend the night with your motorhome in the parking lot on Mainau Island. Please note that in addition to the daily rate of €6 (valid from 7.00 a.m. to 11.59 p.m.), the night tariff (valid from midnight to 7.00 a.m.) of €12 per car is also payable. There is a WC/disabled WC on site. Please note that electricity, showers and waste water disposal are not available and that it is not possible to draw drinking water.
Arrival by train
Mainau Island is easily accessible via Constance train station. From there you can reach the island of Mainau by boat (300 m walk from the station to the ferry pier) or by bus. Further information can be found at the following railroad companies:
