Insel Mainau / Marketing
The watchtower in the southwest of the island of Mainau is another part of the late medieval fortifications. The tower is also known as the “Swedish Tower” to commemorate the time of the Swedish occupation of Mainau. The year 1558 written above the entrance door, as well as the coat of arms of the Teutonic Order, indicate that it was originally built as a watchtower facing the mainland. The present form with a helmet roof and wooden cladding dates from the 19th century. The Swedish Tower cannot be entered.
