When the traditional song “Sankta Lucia” rings out in the Palm House on Mainau Island, one of the most beautiful Nordic Christmas traditions arrives: the Lucia Festival. In an atmospheric setting, we celebrate Lucia, the Swedish Queen of Light—accompanied by singing, candlelight, and a contemplative Advent spirit. The Lucia Festival symbolizes light, hope, and community during the dark winter months.
On Mainau Island, this Scandinavian tradition blends with the special atmosphere of the Christmas Garden and the Swedish heritage of the Bernadotte family.

The Lucia Festival is part of the tour through the Christmas Garden on Mainau Island. While the approximately three-kilometer-long light trail with numerous installations creates a magical winter atmosphere, the Lucia Festival invites you to enjoy a peaceful and moving moment.
A member of the Bernadotte family opens the event and introduces the history and significance of the Lucia Festival.
